Distinguished and Famous people from Buninyong
🌟 Thomas Hiscock
Buninyong blacksmith Thomas Hiscock found gold near the village in August 1851, helping draw attention to the district at the beginning of Victoria's gold rush. His discovery is commemorated locally, but it should not be confused with the first discovery of gold anywhere in Victoria. Hiscock also left a visual record associated with the find, linking a working tradesman's experience with the extraordinary changes about to overtake the region. Within a short time, gold was transforming nearby Ballarat and the lives of people far beyond the diggings.
